Hey all πŸ’œ

How are you'll been doing? Good so far? Anything interesting?

If you have read my previous entry, I was somewhat curious about Snus, pronounced ‘snoose (rhymes with goose) or nicotine pouches. I was so into it, I did more research on it. I am just like that, if something caught my interest. I’ll be on it for weeks until I find something else interesting to learn or investigate. Some may deem this as NOT an appropriate post for me to write but who gives a rats ass ! Lol πŸ˜›

Oh by the way you can read my entry on snus and nicotine pouches here πŸ‘‡https://www.zazaazman8.com/2021/01/what-is-snus-and-nicotine-pouches-whats.html

Saying that, do you have any idea, what is Snus? What are the functions of Snus? What’s it made of ? Is it really better than smoking ? Let me elaborate more for you in this post.

Snus is an oral common type of smokeless tobacco, a noncombustible tobacco product. Snus is usually placed behind the upper lip, either in a loose form or in portioned sachets. Which resemble miniature tea bags.

It is also referred to as “spitless” tobacco because it typically doesn’t generate a lot of saliva, so instead of spitting any excess, the consumer simply swallows it. This also makes Snus a more discreet smokeless product because there is no need for a spit receptacle.

It’s sort of a better alternative to smoking. While smoking a cigarette, not only do you harm your own health but others around you as well for second-hand smoking symptoms.  Same goes with vaping.

Smokeless tobacco products consist of tobacco or a tobacco blend that's chewed, sucked on or sniffed, rather than smoked.  Snus usually contains nicotine , which is highly addictive. Nicotine is absorbed through the soft tissues of the mouth and in some cases swallowed.

For your information, Snus has been a traditional product originated in Sweden since the 18th century. Though popular and trending in Sweden and Norway, and currently available in the US and India. But do you know that mostly in the European Union, Snus is prohibited.

Snus is ground air-cured tobacco, mixed with salt and water and then processed under strict quality and regulatory controls using a technique similar to pasteurisation. When Snus is processed, it can involve tobacco pasteurization. This is when nitrate-forming microbes are removed.

The process leads to lower levels of tobacco-specific nitrosamine content in the product. Due to this process, some researchers, and tobacco companies , report that this is why Snus is a less harmful alternative to smoking cigarettes.

Snus is distinctly different to other oral tobacco products due to the unique manufacturing process involved. Manufacturers may also use food-grade smoke aroma flavourings, herbs or floral flavours to enhance its taste. It comes in flavors such as mint and wintergreen. You don’t burn it, and you don’t have to spit when you use it.

Snus must be refrigerated to maintain that freshness. A tin of snus has about a 30-day shelf life, after which it’ll begin to lose its moisture and flavor.

Main types of smokeless tobacco include the following:

➤ Snus is a smokeless, spitless, flavored tobacco product. It is sold loose or in tea bag-like pouches.
πŸ‘‰It's similar to snuff but is pasteurized during the manufacturing process to kill bacteria that can produce cancer-causing chemicals.

Snuff, mostly found in the United States, are finely cut or ground tobacco that may be flavored. It's available in dry or moist forms and is packaged in tins or tea bag-like pouches.
πŸ‘‰A pinch of snuff is placed along the gumline, either behind the lip or between the gum and cheek. Using snuff is also called dipping. Dry snuff also can be sniffed into the nose.

Chewing tobacco is packaged either as loose tobacco leaves; leaves compressed into a small, brick-like shape called a plug; or braids of leaves called a twist. A piece of tobacco is placed between the cheek and gum.
πŸ‘‰The saliva that builds up in the mouth is either spit out or swallowed. Chewing tobacco, which may be flavored, is also called chew, spitting tobacco or spit.

( This is what and where I’ve watched mostly in the western movies, where they spit out while chewing the tobacco. Usually in cowboy’s or in any baseball movies. Am I right ?)

Dissolvable tobacco products are pieces of compressed powdered tobacco that are usually flavored. They dissolve in the mouth, requiring no spitting of tobacco juices.
πŸ‘‰They are sold as orbs or lozenges that resemble hard candy; sticks about the size of a matchstick; or strips that are thin, flat sheets like a dissolvable breath strip.
πŸ‘‰These products are not the same as the nicotine lozenges used to help people quit smoking.

Nicotine pouches are white pre-portioned pouches containing either tobacco derived nicotine or synthetic nicotine. It is like snus, but does not contain any tobacco leaf, dust, or stem.
πŸ‘‰Nicotine pouches are made from natural fibers, chew base fillers and nicotine which has been extracted from the tobacco leaves.

Although there have been an increasing number of researchers considering that smokeless tobacco products are a good alternative for people who find it difficult to stop smoking tobacco completely.

Some evidence suggests that Snus users aren't at as great a risk as cigarette users are for mouth cancer, heart disease, lung cancer, stroke, emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

The research shows that this is a strategy for reducing the harmful effects of smoking, believing that there are major health gains to be realized if smokers replace cigarettes with significantly less harmful smokeless products.

WARNING !! Even though smokeless tobacco products are better than actually smoking the tobacco. They’re still not risk-free. Be that as it may statistically shown that they’ve drastically reduced the smokers risk by switching to Snus.

Switchers had consistently lower rates of cancer and heart disease than those who continue to smoke. Switchers had rates of cancer and heart disease similar to those who quit smoking. The results are consistent with an earlier review finding no increased risk of cancer and heart disease from Snus use.

There is other research indicating that in spite of the fact that smokeless tobacco products are SAFER than smoking tobacco, there are figures and data showing that it does increase other diseases.

*** Disclaimer : I am not condoning or even agreeing that any of you should start taking Snus or any tobacco products, but there are always options for you.

For my personal opinion, It’s either you stop and quit tobacco or find a better alternative that doesn't involve others' health in your array of recreational pastimes.

Whatever it is that you might choose. Please make good choices. Do take good care of your own health. πŸ’“
